Dancehall is a genre of Jamaican popular music that grew from the reggae and roots styles of music in the 1970’s.
Developed in the dance halls of Jamaica, at parties and nightclubs, Dancehall is a highly energetic dance style, with a strong focus on moving the hips and “booty”. Many moves seen in hip-hop videos today are variations of popular dancehall dances such as the “dutty wine”, the “willie bounce” and the “bogle” to name a few.
Students learn different dancehall dances while learning new choreography to popular dancehall music.
Expect lots of booty shaking and sweating in our Dancehall classes. Bring your high-energy vibes and light-soled dancing shoes!
