What is Soiree?

Know what you’re doing & Just want to get started?

Our Annual Soirée Performance

Each year The Dance Workshop presents our Soirée a professionally produced showcase where our students perform on stage in front of a live audience. It is a celebration of the work, dedication and progress of our dance community.  This year we will be celebrating our 15-year anniversary of dance.

While participation is not mandatory, many of our adult students choose to perform each year — often for the first time in their lives. For some it’s a personal challenge, for others it’s about sharing the experience with their class, and for many it simply becomes one of the most enjoyable and rewarding parts of their dance journey.

Performing gives your dancing a different focus. Working towards the stage builds confidence, strengthens technique and deepens the connection between students and teachers. We consistently see dancers grow in remarkable ways when they set the goal of performing.

Importantly, the Soirée is not about perfection. It is about showing up, supporting each other, and celebrating what you have achieved.

Many students who were initially unsure about performing later tell us they are so glad they gave it a go.

You can read what some of our students have said about their experience performing here: The Transformative Nature of Dance

Participation in the Soirée is a privilege (and responsibility) available exclusively to Dance Workshop students. Rehearsals for performance items take place outside the usual class timetable, so students should ensure they are able to commit to both their regular classes and the additional rehearsal schedule.

If you have ever wondered what it might feel like to step onto the stage, this is your invitation to try. You do not need to be an advanced dancer — only willing to be part of the process.

Many of our students start by simply saying “I’ll give it a go this year.
If that sounds like you, we would love to have celebrate with us on stage this year.

To help make the experience positive and enjoyable for everyone involved, we have a few terms and conditions in place to ensure a shared commitment across all participants. It is important that you read through this booklet to thoroughly understand what is required from the students.

Class Commitment

Z

Students are required to make an 8-week commitment to classes in the lead up to Soiree. This begins April 13, 2026. This is made via a prepayment of 8-weeks of classes for each soiree item you are in (provided at a discount) upon payment of the Soiree Registration/Insurance fee.

Z

Classes continue as usual and are separate to the Soiree rehearsals. This is to ensure that class remains class and students not performing in the Soiree can continue to get the benefits of a properly structured class.

Z

Students are required to continue their classes if they wish to participate in the Soiree. Students cannot stop attending classes, and only attending rehearsals (even if they have paid for the classes).

Z

Students can only do the soiree item of the teacher whose class they take. It is not enough that they are a “student of the studio”.

Z

Students will be limited to a maximum of 4 items.

Rehearsal Commitment

Z

Rehearsals occur outside of the timetable. The teacher will discuss with participants when these rehearsals occur.

Z

Teachers charge their own fees for rehearsals. This is paid directly to teacher for their time for these rehearsals including the tech rehearsal. Your teacher will advise what this is, based on the number of, and duration of rehearsals.

Z

Performing in a group is a team effort. In signing up, you commit to attend all the rehearsals including lighting tech and blocking rehearsals, finale rehearsal and dress rehearsals.

Financial Commitment

It costs a lot to put a show on, and a small studio like ours it is impossible without the financial commitment of the students to cover some of the ever-increasing costs of putting on a show. Additionally, these measures are put in place to ensure that all students are invested equally. To participate in Soiree, students are required to commit to the following:

This pass will only cover 8 classes during the “Soiree-commitment-period” which is April 13, 2026 – June 7, 2026.   You will need to purchase one for each item you wish to participate in.   Missed classes cannot be credited to your account or carried over after the Soiree-commitment period.

For those students who do 3 or more classes per week, there is a “Soiree-unlimited” 8-week pack to ensure your usual dance class costs do not increase.  This pack is $536* and entitles you to unlimited classes for 8-weeks ($67 per week discounted from $72 per week).  You can purchase this pack either outright, or using a payment plan of $201 initial deposit, followed by 5 weekly payments of $67.00 commencing 3 weeks after the initial payment date via direct debit.
