Come and experience the energy and artistry of House dance! Born on the underground club dance floors of Chicago and New York in the 1970s and 1980s, House is a social street dance that emerged as a post-disco-era genre. It arose as a response to the commercialization and tensions associated with disco, with House dancers using their bodies as a means of creative expression and community building.
Rooted in a melting pot of different ethnic, cultural, and musical influences, House dance is a style that heavily emphasises footwork, pulling from Afro, Latin, and jazz roots. In this workshop, you’ll have the opportunity to learn the basics and foundations of House dance from Illly, an experienced dancer and instructor. While some dance experience is required, Illly will guide you through the fundamentals and quickly have you learning larger sequences and experimenting with freestyling.
Whether you’re a dancer with some experience looking to expand your repertoire, or a seasoned pro eager to explore the rich history and diversity of House dance, this workshop is the perfect opportunity to connect with others and take your skills to the next level. Join us and discover the joy and community of House dance!
