KUMINA is an indigenized Jamaican ‘call and response’ practice of Congolese origin. From its earliest days, this framework around drum and dance and its retention, is sustained by practitioners who pass down the tradition through many generations.
SKANKIN is a form of dancing practiced in the ska, ska punk, hardcore punk, reggae, drum and bass and other music scenes. The dance style originated in the 1950s or 1960s at Jamaican dance halls, where ska music was played.
Deco is a professional Dancehall dancer, teacher & choreographer from St Thomas, Jamaica. His crew Zymm Team Dancers are one of Jamaicas emerging new skool Dancehall crews. In addition to performing with several top dancehall artists, Deco has also toured internationally, teaching and performing throughout South America.
Deco’s style of dancing is raw, authentic & straight from the roots of Reggae and Dancehall. His teaching methods incorporate cultural, historical & storytelling elements to allow people to gain a deeper understanding of the rich culture of Jamaican dance.
Deco moved to Australia in 2019 and has been teaching regular Dancehall classes in Perth. He has also taught and performed and several events across Australia.
