This lively jazz class keeps things fun and energetic, but without the fast-paced routines or challenging jumps. Our instructors focus on building a strong foundation in jazz dance, emphasising the most popular steps in a way that’s beginner-friendly. Feel free to take it at your own pace and progress comfortably!
Silver Swans Ballet
Developed by the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), this low-impact ballet class focuses on exercises at the barre and centre. Certified instructor Vivienne Stodell tailors the program for a slower pace and offers modifications to accommodate any physical limitations. It’s the perfect way to enjoy the beauty of ballet without the pressure of high jumps or strenuous turns.
The Benefits of Dance Go Beyond the Physical
Dance isn’t just about physical activity; it offers a wealth of cognitive and emotional benefits too! Studies have shown that dance classes can improve brain function, memory, and overall well-being. It’s a fantastic way to stay mentally sharp and engaged while having a blast.

The over 50’s Jazz class is so uplifting. A range of dance moves and styles are taught, so you never get bored. In the class Ashanti gives a lot of attention to technique and the ‘feel’ of the music. It is a non judgemental space, with an amazing group of women and a lot of fun as well !

I have just finished the Dance Basics course with the fabulous Dee Dee and what a fun and energising 5 weeks it was! Dee Dee was so vibrant and encouraging and the whole class was swept up in her enthusiasm every week.
I am so glad that my work friend and I took the leap and enrolled. Our weekly classes were the talk of the office and our colleagues looked forward to our demos in the lunchroom – we LOVED it!

I first read an article about “Ballet for Veterans” which is a program for returned vets suffering from PTSD in Queensland and that lead me to the Silver Swans, which started in 2017. As a person of a certain age, the gym and other get fit programs are not for me so I thought I would give this a go and it has been a revelation. Never danced in my life other than awkward gyrations in my youth and it really is such fun, plus, surprise surprise you don’t go home feeling stiff and saw which was a great revelation. Vivian is very thoughtful and kind with her encouragement and support for the ‘lesser beings’ in the group, so you never feel inferior, stupid or awkward, everyone just moves to their own pace, are very caring and it’s just a wonderful experience. So glad I found it !!

I have been enjoying flamenco at DWS for 10 years now and love it more than ever. The community and quality of the lessons are fantastic. Everyone at DWS is so friendly and helpful. I would attend every day if I could. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming and respectful I have made so many great friends and when I am dancing I get to exercise regularly without even realising I am. Can highly recommend flamenco at DWS – come and join us!

Leanne is a wonderful teacher. I hadn’t done tap for about 25 years. It reopened a happy place in my heart. It was also great because I was able to do it with my 25-year-old daughter. I did tap basics twice and now I am doing elementary. Leanne is patient and very encouraging and has an immense knowledge of tap. I am telling my friends.

My first Fab Over 50 Jazz Class. Had a great time, a great workout and actually knew a few steps. Ashanti is a great instructor. All the ladies were so welcoming and helpful. Thoroughly enjoyed it and will be back for more.
