Chris Dodson
Chris Dodson is originally from Perth and trained at The Performance Company and the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. He spent 13 years performing all around the globe from the USA, UK, Europe, China and Australia in various musical theatre and dance production shows, live theatre and cabaret-circus spectaculars.
After retiring from the stage he worked on the production teams of the critically acclaimed West End productions of We Will Rock You and ‘MAMMA MIA! by special arrangement with Judy Craymer for Littlestar Services Ltd, UK/USA. Chris was also on the production team for two world exclusive shows (‘Starwater’ & ‘Spectra’s Cabaret’) for ‘MOMENT FACTORY’– a Canadian multimedia production company, specialising in immersive environments.
Royal Caribbean International (RCI) brought him on as an associate director for an established touring ‘Mystery Theatre Program’ and the internationally recognised branded game show, ‘Name That Tune’. RCI soon asked him to take the position of Entertainment & Guest Activities Creative Producer & Director. In this role he created 14 brand new entertainment concepts for the Quantum, Anthem, Ovation, Empress, Harmony and Symphony of the Seas.
Chris’s ‘Totally Awesome – 90s Street P.A.R.T.Y!’ would see up to 3,000 guests at any time. After heart-filling successes with RCI he then joined forces with The Imagination House in Orlando, Florida where he worked on a digital concert series ‘Virtual Concert’ with ‘Sante Fe & The Fat City Horns’ and the ‘American Philharmonic Orchestra’. Chris’s career hit a pinnacle point while working in Orlando when he was asked to creatively direct several concepts for ‘Disney’ – a dream come true.
In 2018 before returning home to Perth, Chris collaborated with Spark Cooperative Miami, producing Kids & Family Content for Caesar’s Palace – Bluewater’s Dubai. Gladly back on home soil after an almost 20-year journey working within multiple facets of the Performing Arts, Chris proudly calls Perth his new creative hub.
Storytelling one of his new found passions, Chris performed two sold-out seasons of ’Stories From The Heart’ at two Fringe World Festivals.
He has been involved in various entertainment platforms working with Solution Entertainment and KRAVE for Optus Stadium; Muse Bureau for ‘ART BALL’ at the Art Gallery of Western Australia, Perth Wildcats MVP Revue Ball – Crown Towers Perth, The Dance Workshop, YMCA Recreation Centres, Class Act Performers, Ignite Performing Academy, APAN Academy, The Performance Company and as an adjudicator for Enter The Stage.
He was elated to be invited to work at Methodist Ladies’ College first as a Dramaturg and later as the Choreographer for the timeless, captivating story; ‘Little Women – The Broadway Musical’; Wendy & Peter Pan. By Ella Hickson and the ‘Wizard of OZ’ at the International School of Western Australia (ISWA) – and most recently in his dream role – a role of a life-time, director of ‘MAMMA MIA! The Musical’ at the The Regal Theatre for Serasi Entertainment.
Chris is the Creative Director of an adult-based movement class, ‘BeMoved Dance with Chris’, and was lucky enough to study under founder and creator Sherry Zunker in Chicago, USA. Chris brings the joy of movement to those who love to dance, or who have always wanted to try. BeMoved is for everybody; and every body!
Chris recently producing & directed an exclusive one night only show for Pop Choir. This ultimate experience will be staged at the iconic Palais Theatre in St Kilda – Melbourne’s home of live music. Pop Choir at the Palais: With a little help from our friends featured hundreds of performers including Musical Theatre star, Jemma Rix. Chris Dodson is beyond excited to start his new and exciting chapter “back home” – passing the torch onto the wonderful talent that Perth holds.
