Kiara Thomson
Kiara Thomson is an encouraging, enthusiastic and energetic teacher who is passionate about bringing the joy of dance into peoples lives.
Kiara was enrolled into dance classes at a young age and began teaching at the age of 15. After an inspiring trip to Montreal in 2009, Kiara returned to Perth and sought to broaden her training across different styles of dance. Classes at The Dance Workshop quickly became some of her favourites! Over the last 10 years she has enjoyed exploring Hip hop, House, Heels, African dances, Dancehall and more. Her love for street and party dances has motivated her to travel to learn from dancers in Jamaica, Melbourne, New York, Vancouver and LA.
Since her first visit to Jamaica in 2015, Kiara has had the joy of sharing her passion and knowledge of Dancehall by teaching classes in studios around Perth and Melbourne. She helped to establish Vybe Nation, a Perth based collective that has presented community events such as the WA Dancehall Retreat, The WA Dancehall King and Queen Competition and a number of workshops connecting Perth dancers to Jamaican Dancehall dancers, teachers and cultural ambassadors.
Kiara is inspired to connect students to dance in a way that allows for self-expression, joy and connection to a community.
